How does a studio portrait day work?
Encore Dance Portraits conducts portrait sessions during regular class time in a calm, efficient manner. Dancers are photographed individually, and a studio group portrait is also created. The process is designed to integrate seamlessly into your schedule with minimal disruption.
What ages and styles do you work with?
Encore works with dancers aged 6–17 across all styles, including ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and competitive programs. Direction and pacing are adjusted appropriately for each age group and experience level.
How long does portrait day take?
Timing depends on the number of dancers, but sessions are designed to be efficient and predictable. Most studios find portrait day fits comfortably within regular class schedules without impacting instruction time.
Is there any on-site selling or pressure on parents?
No. All portraits are pre-purchased in advance, and there is no on-site sales, upselling, or money handling at the studio. This keeps portrait day calm and focused for dancers, staff, and families.
What do parents receive with the pre-purchase?
Each dancer receives one professionally retouched 8×10 colour portrait and one copy of the studio group portrait. This is clearly communicated to parents ahead of time.
Can parents order additional prints or artwork?
Yes. After portrait day, families may optionally access a private online gallery where they can order additional prints, different sizes, digital files, or specialty artwork such as custom watercolour-style canvas prints. There is no obligation to purchase beyond the pre-purchase.
Do studios receive a commission?
Yes. Encore provides studios with a 12% commission on all portrait sales, including pre-purchases and optional post-event orders. Commission is paid after orders are completed, along with a sales summary.
What is required from the studio?
Studios are asked to provide access to the portrait space, share parent communication provided by Encore, and supply a class list or roster in advance (if available). Encore manages setup, flow, and all photography. No additional staff support is required.
How are dancers helped to feel comfortable?
Encore’s approach is calm and confidence-building. With extensive experience photographing children and teens in dance environments, dancers are guided gently and respectfully so they feel supported and at ease throughout the session.
What makes Encore different from school or volume photographers?
Encore is a dance-specific portrait partner, not a school photo company. We focus on posture, presence, and confidence, with consistent lighting and refined presentation. The experience is designed to reflect the professionalism of the studio and the dedication of its dancers.
Are you experienced with competitive dance environments?
Yes. Michael Callaghan is the official photographer for ONE Dance Experience and regularly photographs dancers across multiple studios, styles, and performance levels. Many families recognize Encore’s work from competitions and events throughout the region.
Do studios receive anything beyond portrait day?
Yes. Encore creates a professionally designed annual studio photo book featuring that season’s dancers. This serves as a lasting archive of your studio’s community and growth year to year.
